Hello National Cheeseburger Day and thank you for falling on a camping weekend! We will be celebrating with some tasty campfire grilled burgers.
Delicious! How lucky that two of our favorite things happened to fall on the same day!

Today is National Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance Day. This day is meant to inspire the tradition of engaging in charitable service.
I can’t think of a better way to honor those who served us on 9-11 and on so many other days in our history. My daughter and I decided to donate to our local Salvation Army and spend time picking up trash in our neighborhood. I hope to expand on this concept as my daughter gets older. My family will be forever grateful to all members of our community that serve to make it a better place to live.
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year and shows support for environmental protection. This day is not only about appreciating the environment it is also about preserving it as well. We decided to celebrate this day with four fun activities.
It is National Johnny Apple Seed Day. Johnny Apple Seed is celebrated each year on his Johnny Chapman’s birthday, September 26. He is known for his kind and generous ways and fascinating life.
Today is National Carrot Cake Day! I love carrot cake because it is cake and you get credit for vegetables too. Win-win! This is definitely one of my very favorite days. It is pretty much like my birthday only better because I get to eat carrot cake without getting older.
Today is National Cherry Turnover Day! Turnovers are a personal favorite of mine so we had to celebrate this one!
Ahoy matey, it be National Talk like a Pirate day and we be celebratin’ like true pirates! Me kids just may be walkin’ the plank if their behavior ain’t shipshape.
Happy Birthday John Hancock! Who knew you would be helping us celebrate handwriting all of these years later? Today is National Handwriting Day. It was established by the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association in 1977 to help promote and sell their products. In this technology age handwriting is fast becoming a thing of the past. I have to say as an educator and a parent this saddens me. The art and importance of handwriting should be taught in schools in generations moving forward. Unfortunately, the trend seems to be moving away from handwriting after the primary grades. Studies show that the learning process may develop more quickly when reading and writing are used together. Here is a link to a great article I found in the New York Times that further discusses the importance of handwriting.
