Did someone say coffee? I’m not saying coffee is my best friend, but let’s just say it has supported me through more than a few busy mornings. September 29 is National Coffee Day, and you can bet I’ll be celebrating.

You are so beautiful to me! Really you are one of my very favorite readers! We use adjectives so much we don’t even think about it, even to describe our favorite blog readers. Adjectives are used to describe or modify a noun. Although this is still a fairly simple part of speech it may not be as easy for little ones to understand as some of the others. The definition itself uses more complex language than that of a verb or a noun. So how do we teach this important part of speech to younger kids? Here are some fun activities that I have used in the past with students as well as with my daughter.
Why aren’t you in school? My daughter gets this question a lot as we are out and about during the day. She always proudly answers with, “I’m homeschooled”. There is usually an awkward silence followed by an even more awkward question. Many times it has to do with socialization. I embrace these moments.
Score one point for each thing you have never done. The lower your score, the more you are a true RV’er!
Raise your hand if you have used Groupon. I know my hand is up. Now raise your hand if you love a great coupon for a “brick and mortar” or online store. What if you could use those two things together? I know I would be all in! Who doesn’t love saving money? For a homeschooling family, like mine, saving money is a must!
Painting and then hiding rocks has become this summer’s craze. Rock painting is taking place in cities everywhere and there are often social media pages devoted to this fun trend. The local Facebook page for my community, 719 Rocks!, has gained over 16,000 followers in a few months’ time. I must say, I think this is such a positive use of technology.
Do you have a little one that is clingy? Or maybe one that likes to run free? Both of my children were a bit more of the clingy type. This worked out great for safety but not so much for letting me get things done. Or even going to the bathroom in peace. I’m so thankful they love and trust me, but I also want them to be independent. It is so important for building confidence and learning life skills. Here are some of the things we do to encourage independence.
Do you have snackers at your house? My daughter is in a phase where should would rather snack all day then eat. I’m not really opposed to this, as several small meals throughout the day can be better than three heavy meals. The problem is finding healthy options we can agree on. Since she has a slight build, I like to make sure has a little protein with each snack. I have also found that I snack while preparing her snack. Oops! Healthier choices help me too.
I don’t have anything to do. Raise your hand if you have heard this come out of your little cutie’s mouth a time or two… or three thousand. Spring and summer break can seem daunting if don’t already have set plans. I’m all for letting kids experience a little boredom, but it can be exhausting for everyone. The problem is finding something to do can be difficult. Here is a list of things that you can do just about anywhere and provide fun for just about everyone.
It is officially summer break for us. I am so excited because this means camping and road trips! I grew up camping and taking spur of the moment road trips. I will NEVER outgrow camping and road trips. I love sharing these special moments with my family! The sense of adventure, the unknown, being in nature and spending time enjoying God’s amazing creations.
Summer vacation is here for some and just around the corner for others. I am going to be first in line for all of the summer fun! My flip-flops are all lined up and ready to go. Don’t get me wrong, I love the other seasons too. The problem is, this year, old man winter has over-stayed his welcome. Just a few weeks ago I was sledding and building snow people. I am saying no to snow people…at least until October or November. I’m ready for fresh cut grass, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, the sound of birds in my backyard and swimming in the pool.
Kids are little sponges. They soak in everything they see and hear. We are told this all the time and it is true. Kids take in everything. It is an interesting analogy, as sponges can get gross over time. Does that mean are kids are taking in the bad stuff along with the good and are impacted by it? Unfortunately, they are!
