Today is Leif Erikson Day! Leif Erikson was an 11th century Norse explorer. It is actually believed that the Vikings, Leif Erikson, were the first to land on the continent of North America. I thought this would be a perfect day to do a small lesson on Vikings.

We read How to Be A Viking by Cressida Cowell. I highly recommend this book. It tells the story of a small Viking, Hiccup, who is finding his way in the rough Viking world. We also decided to come up with Viking names for ourselves. One way to do this is to use a characteristic about yourself and alliteration, such as Leif the Lucky. We decided on Claire the Curious and Mommy the Mopper (Because clearly my name is Mommy and I mop all the time ). We will also be making a simple Viking hat.

What is your Viking name?
