Pokemon, Batman, Star Wars, and Wonder Woman. All of these are things that kids love. They all involve epic battles. Even shows like My Little Pony have feuds in them. It seems like the more conflict or action there is, the more kids love it. I’m thinking there could be a correlation between the two. You know what would be even better? If you could somehow incorporate this idea into learning, right?
I have great news! We were recently introduced to a new book called Who Wins?: 100 Historical Figures Go Head-to-Head and You Decide the Winner! by Clay Swartz (Author), Tom Booth (Illustrator). It pits 100 historical characters against one another. The best part is you and your child decides who the winner is. This book is so much fun and the battle possibilities are endless. Each battle is exciting, unique and so educational. If you are anything like me you will be including sound effects and possibly a make-shift boxing ring.
It is created in a flip book style that allows you to create an endless combination of scenarios. It asks questions like, “Who are better under pressure?”, “Who has the best survival skills?”, “Who is in better shape?”, “Who is the most fearless?” and so many more. One of my favorite parts of the book is the little-known facts section. It is full of great information.
My favorite battle so far has been Muhammad Ali versus Sacagawea. Can you guess who won? They are both amazing and we learned so much about each of them. The great thing is we have learned so much about so many great historical figures. Many that I wouldn’t have thought about teaching my daughter yet. I feel lucky that she is getting a head start in such a fun way.
Please check this book out. I recommend getting a few copies for gifts too. I know I have it on my list for a few lucky little ones. Knowledge is power and this book is full of knowledge! My daughter can’t get enough of this book and honestly neither can I. Even my twenty-two year old loves the battles. Clay Swartz is a creative genius with a keen understanding of the way kids learn. We are huge fans and know you will be too!
