For picture book month we recently read Little Elliot Big City by Mike Curato. This is a cute story about friendship. Little Elliot is overwhelmed with all of the problems and adventure that the big city brings but soon finds comfort in a small unlikely place. Read this adorable story to find out about Elliot’s adventure. For this story we decided to exercise our drawing muscle and draw or very own version of Elliot. We then dabbled drops of paint above his trunk and used a straw to blow the paint in creative designs. It also promotes cognitive development with color mixing. The children can name primary and secondary colors. This activity is great for tactile learners. It is also helping to develop independence as they draw their own elephant.
What art projects have you been doing to help promote independence lately?
